Winter is the best time for plastic surgery
Winter is absolutely the best time of year to get plastic surgery for a number of reasons. First, the post-operative period for most surgeries includes a short “awkward period”. For instance, immediately following a breast augmentation, your breasts will definitely be high and hard for approximately 2 to 3 months until they have time to settle. Winter clothes are natural camouflage. Also, you need to avoid the sun after procedures such as eyelid lifts, face lifts, or rhinoplasty for a few months. Much easier to do in the Winter. Swelling following liposuction is also much less significant.
Take Their Breath Away This Holiday
There are a myriad of procedures that will get you in top shape for the holidays. You can finally melt away those unwanted extra pounds with body contouring treatments that are definitely worth considering. The first is SmartLipo MPX, which is a new technology to remove fat cells and tighten skin. It is an extremely effective procedure for body contouring of the chin, arms, abdomen, bra roll”, “love handles” and legs. The cosmetic surgical industry is calling this new technology a Revolution in laser body sculpting, due to the minimal bruising, downtime and less trauma to the area. The most significant advancement for this new technology is the actual skin tightening effect while removing the fat cells! The added benefits may have an overall improvement in reducing or decreasing dimpling and cellulite. The perfect candidate is in good health and near to their normal body weight. SmartLipo MPX is often an excellent complement to conventional liposuction. The bottom line for patients is an improved body that is smaller in inches, has less fat and tighter skin. Most patients can return to work in a couple of days and resume exercise after three weeks. Results can be seen within a week, with continued improvement over three to six months. This procedure is a perfect holiday tune up!
Another excellent new treatment is VelaShape a non-invasive technology for cellulite reduction. More than 80% of women over the age of 20, regardless of their weight or size, are affected by cellulite. VelaShape is effective in reducing the appearance of cellulite and re-contouring the body. Patients feel a deep soothing heat in the targeted area and most see remarkable improvement in the appearance of the skin on their thighs, buttocks, stomach and waist.
An added procedure to get you ready for holiday get together is a minimally invasive facelift. As with the rest of the body, the appearance of the face and neck changes with age. Muscle tone is lost, causing a flabby or droopy appearance. The jowls may begin to sag, contributing to a double chin. The nose lengthens slightly and may look more prominent. There is an increase in the number, size, and color of pigmented spots on the face. The eyebrows and eyelashes lose pigment and turn gray. The skin around the eyelids becomes loose and wrinkled, often making a crows feet pattern. The eye socket loses some of its fat pads, making the eyes look sunken. Droopy upper eyelids can occasionally contribute to limitations in vision. The fat pad that lies below the eye starts to thin over time, creating a sunken look to the area, and the lower eyelid tends to droop, creating a “tear trough.” The light that hits this area gives the illusion of a dark circle.
Since the face continually changes with age, the benefits of having undergone surgery will ensure that you will look younger than your chronological age. Aging is not limited to the surface of the skin. So, if “40 is the new 30”, and “50 is the new 40”, then what do we do about all this depressing aging? A well-done facelift, which will not change your looks or make you look like a different person. It will not make you look fake….a well done facelift will take years off your appearance and have people saying things like…”wow, you look great!”…but they wont be sure why/how you suddenly look so good.
If youre not ready for surgery, using a combination of the latest injectable and highly advanced laser options can freshen up your face and give you a youthful appearance. The newest laser treatment available today is called Trinity, which is a three in one non-invasive laser skin rejuvenation system. Trinity, will reverse sun damage, remove wrinkles and tighten skin, all being done at the same time. Combining Botox, Juvederme and Restylane injections to your skin rejuvenation program will replace lost volume, restore youthful contours and erase wrinkles. Years can be taken off of the face in a matter of minutes!
In order to keep the effects of your skin rejuvenation program optimized, one of the most exciting products is my new skin care line Dr. Stephen Greenbergs Cosmetic Surgeon in a Jar. This brand new skin care line is one of the most advanced anti-aging skin care product lines on the market. It tightens the skin, reduces wrinkles and lifts the face.
This is one of the best times of the year to have that breast procedure youve been dreaming of. Whether it be the newest type of breast augmentation, breast lift or any other breast procedure, I strive to obtain the most natural breasts. I design an individual procedure to match the patients own specific antoamy. One of the hottest new implants available is the silicon memory gel. This implant creates an even more natural result both ascetically and by touch.
So, if you are ready to take their breath away this holiday, there are so many great options available for you.
FDA Paves Way for Silicone Implants to be Widely Used

Decision to Spark Increase in Breast Augmentation Procedures
NEW YORK, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ — Silicone Implant makers Allergan Inc. and Mentor Corp. have won U.S. approval to resume unrestricted sales of silicone breast implants.
The Food and Drug Administration today ended restrictions that had limited the products to clinical trials for 14 years. Silicone, also used in the Silly Putty toy, was the target of breast-implant litigation that cost Dow Corning Corp. $3.2 billion.
Dr. Stephen Greenberg is one of New York’s premiere cosmetic surgeons, performing thousands of breast augmentations each year. He has long been a proponent of silicone implants. “Silicone offers the patient the most true to life representation of breast tissue and the most natural result. It is also a very user friendly material to work with as a surgeon,” said Greenberg. “I expect that this will signal an immediate increase in breast augmentation procedures as patients who had previous reservations will now be more willing to move forward with the procedure,” he continued.
Silicone closely resembles the texture of breast tissue and has been used extensively in other countries. Sales of the implants and the subsequent procedures are expected to sky rocket in the next few years. In their decision to approve the implants the FDA didn’t link the implants to connective-tissue diseases, as did allegations against Dow Corning.
About 290,000 women received cosmetic implants in 2005, a 37 percent increase in a five-year period, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. For further information, or to arrange an interview with Dr. Greenberg, please call 212-977-4647.

Cosmetic Viewing Parties and Last Minute Touch-ups Invade Hollywood
NEW YORK, NY Hollywood’s Red Carpet will be filled with plastic surgery and Botox more than ever as movie moguls make their appearances at the Academy Awards.
According to celebrity plastic surgeon and radio host Dr. Stephen Greenberg there are actors and actresses getting primed with plastic surgery and last minute touch-ups in record numbers. Plastic surgery is up nationwide and is continuing to rise at a booming rate with an overall 44% increase in the total number of cosmetic procedures in 2004. Since 1997, there has been a 465% increase in the total number of cosmetic procedures, both according to statistics compiled by The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and as evidenced in Hollywood.
Some doctors, like Dr. Greenberg, are doing last minute touches for those actors and actresses who maintain anonymity but have appointments the week of the awards event on the west coast.
Some celebrities will spend more time lying on an operating table to look good, than they will spend walking the red carpet, but the results are worth it. There are even plastic viewing parties at which patients look and see not only the fashions and styles of the Academy Awards but the cosmetic surgery procedures as well.
Dr. Greenberg is the host of “Plastic Surgery Today” the only radio show in the country devoted entirely to cosmetic surgery. Every week on New York radio stations WLIR and Party 105, Dr. Greenberg takes questions from callers about issues from across the cosmetic surgery spectrum. The program, which has a large, devoted following, draws hundreds of calls every week and has been on the air for close to ten years.

Massive Weight Loss Often Leads To Massive Plastic Surgery
Massive Weight Loss Often Leads to Massive Plastic Surgery
Woodbury, NY The Atkins Diet, “lap band” and gastric bypass surgery are just some of the extreme weight loss techniques that have grown more popular than ever. These programs have given many people incredible, life changing results. But much to the chagrin of those who achieve major weight loss, there is another obstacle that stands in the way of being 100% satisfied with their resulting appearance the remains of their former bodies.
What can be done with the excess, drippy, hanging skin that often follows the loss of a large amount of weight? Diet and exercise cannot remove the saggy skin that stays behind. The only way to rid oneself of this skin, according to Dr. Stephen T. Greenberg,a well-known New York plastic surgeon, is through cosmetic surgery. By undergoing procedures such as thigh lifts, tummy tucks, face and arm lifts and other common techniques, the excess skin will disappear and the body will truly look the way it should following a dramatic transformation.
Dr. Greenberg has many patients who have engaged in popular surgical procedures following a dramatic loss of 100, 150 and even as much as 200 pounds. “My patients had already overcome the extremely difficult challenge of losing the weight, yet they still felt embarrassed in bathing suits and shorts,” says Dr. Greenberg, “They simply needed help getting rid of excess, saggy skin”.
Liposuction of the Hips & Thighs
As the summer approaches, many of us yet again, become firmly resolved to lose weight. While diet and exercise are wonderful at helping us look and feel better, often there are a few trouble areas left behind. Commonly in women, this area is harshly called Asaddlebags@. In men, it’s Alove handles.@ The place on your physique where your body decides to store its fat is based on geneticsso you can blame your mother or father for those unattractive bulges!
Liposuction is the procedure of choice for most patients with isolated and troublesome areas of fat deposits. The procedure, performed under general or twilight anesthesia, actually has one of the easiest recoveries of the many procedures I perform. Most patients describe the discomfort as Aachey@ as if they had worked out too hard and just a few use the word, Apain.@ New techniques have dramatically improved the safety of the procedure along with the results a surgeon can obtain.
Recovery varies between individuals, but if the area is not too large, most patients are back to work in a few days. Patients who undergo very large areas of liposuction don=t have more pain, but may feel a little more tired and need an extra day or two of rest. The incisions for liposuction are tiny and almost invisible when completely healed. Special garments are worn for about three weeks after the procedure to minimize swelling and speed the recovery of the newly shaped area.
Most patients who undergo liposuction notice an improvement almost immediately, although the final results are apparent after about three to six months. Most of the swelling is gone in a few weeks, and you can start buying your new smaller-sized clothes.
Liposuction can be a great solution for the right patient. The best way to find out if the procedure is right for you is through a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Who knows? By summer, you may be planning a trip to the beach or islands to show off your new, svelte shape.
Plastic Surgery Questions and Answers
Answers to your most frequently asked cosmetic surgery questions
Nearly 8.5 million Americans underwent cosmetic procedures to improve their appearance last year. If you are one of the many individuals considering a cosmetic change, you probably share similar questions as those I recently received from my readers:
Q: Dear Dr. Greenberg: My teen-age daughter is extremely self-conscious about her nose. At what age can she consider a nose job? Stacey, Woodbury
A: Dear Stacey: Wait until your daughter is about 16 years old. A nose job (rhinoplasty) performed on teenagers and young adults is often very beneficial to their social development and self confidence. However, nasal surgery is generally avoided in children younger than 16, as there are major growth centers in the nose that affect the growth of the face.
Q: Dear Dr. Greenberg: I am a 34 year old mother of four children who can’t lose her large thighs no matter how hard I exercise. I have heard of a new technique called power-assisted liposuction. Would that work for me? How long do I have to take off from both the gym and work? Mary, Garden City.
A: Dear Mary: Liposuction is one of the most common and safest cosmetic surgical procedures. Several types of liposuction now exist which provide outstanding results. Power assisted liposuction is one of the newest techniques. I use power-assisted liposuction for those areas which are typically more difficult, or when I need to remove larger amounts of fat. The down time after liposuction is only a few days, and you can return to the gym in about three weeks.
Q: Dear Dr. Greenberg: I am 48 years old. Can you tell me know what the best methods are for getting rid of the lines in my face and forehead without getting a face lift? Leslie, East Islip.
A: Dear Leslie: Many non-invasive methods are now available which help both the fine lines and the deeper wrinkles of the face. Botox, a very well accepted treatment, is FDA approved and has a proven multi-year track record as safe and effective. It works well to eliminate the forehead and crow’s feet wrinkles. Collagen or fat transfers work well for the deeper laugh lines. IPL Photo Rejuvenation is another advanced technique that combats the effects of aging in a soft, gentle way. By stimulating collagen production, it softens the appearance of aging skin. Fine lines, wrinkle, pigmentations and the redness associated with rosacea are dramatically reduced. I also encourage good skin care regimens and light facial peels to eliminate the signs of aging. Most of the treatments I’ve described are quick procedures that can be performed during a lunch hour.
Q: Dear Dr. Greenberg: I am 21 years old and I have always had very small breasts. What types of breast implants are available and how safe are they? Janet, Old Brookville.
A: Dear Janet: Breast augmentation is more common than ever and is an extremely popular procedure. The implants that are used in most patients are filled with saline (salt water) and are perfectly safe. There are several types of saline implants which are now available that allow us to obtain the absolute most natural results possible. I believe that the specific implant shape and type should be individualized to the patient’s body and size.
Q: Dear Dr. Greenberg: I have 3 children and I am 48 years old. My abdomen has extra skin and fat. What is the best way to get back my old tummy? Margaret, Dix Hills
A: Dear Margaret: A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is probably what is needed to remove both the extra skin and fat. This procedure also tightens the abdominal wall muscles to restore your former, more youthful stomach. Results are immediate: the abdomen is actually flat as soon as this procedure is performed. I often combine some liposuction along with the tummy tuck to get even better overall results.
The “New Age” of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery
In the not too distant past, cosmetic surgery was thought to be mostly for people in their mid-50’s. As our societal views change, and cosmetic procedures are more available, many new and younger age groups are undergoing cosmetic procedures.
Patients from ages 18 years and up are frequently undergoing breast augmentation and liposuction procedures; in addition to ear surgery, breast reduction and nasal surgery. We all remember when high school students returned from their school breaks with new noses. These procedures have expanded to include many other cosmetic surgeries and to many other age groups. For instance, college students are often having liposuction, breast augmentation and other procedures during their school breaks. School teachers also avail themselves of procedures during these vacations. Overall, every age group is now having age-appropriate procedures at an increasing rate.
Why is there an increase in cosmetic surgery, and why are more younger and older patients having cosmetic surgery? We can only speculate. But as the procedures are easier than ever to perform and recover from, and the results are more natural than ever before, many patients of all age groups now have the desire to take action to improve their self-image and appearance. Certainly the results are much better than ever before, and technology has helped us perform procedures with very little down time. On a daily basis in my practice, patients of all ages are doing what makes themselves feel better, and look better. Societal pressures no longer exist, and patients are outwardly speaking about the procedures they have had. In fact, patients who look in the mirror and are pleased with their appearance often have a happier and uplifted mental status.
In general, the new age of cosmetic surgery not only applies to the newest and most fashionable procedures, but also to the wide age range of the patients having the procedures. Cosmetic surgery is no longer just limited to the 50-year olds having facelifts!! So all of you 20-somethings, and 60-somethings feel free, you’re in good company.
